WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
Osteopathy is a holistic approach to treating the body’s musculoskeletal pain. Blackwood Osteopathy uses a unique approach to recognise that most bodily pain stems from the abnormalities in the body structure that may have occurred in the past through injury, disease or poor health habits.
Our Osteopaths focus on the whole body and how it works together to resolve issues caused from injury, disease or poor health habits. We will look into how your muscles, skeletal system, nervous system, joints and circulation work together in order to reduce your symptoms of pain and discomfort. In short, we look for the root cause of your problem rather than treating the symptoms of your discomfort.
HOW IT WORKS
As Osteopathy uses manual therapies such as massage, stretching and joint articulation, our caring team will find the cause of your pain using our highly developed sense of touch, known as palpation. We will identify where your body is suffering from weakness or dysfunction to treat the cause not the symptom.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
After you explain your current complaints our team will follow up with questions to find out about your health history. Once we can determine the cause of your pain then a treatment plan can be made.
We will treat you during your first consultation, we may refer you to another medical specialist if we believe it to be necessary. Our treatments are hands on and you can expect to feel some relief after the initial treatment however, most cases will require follow up appointments.
Please ensure you wear comfortable and loose clothing as your Osteopath may require you to stretch in order to treat your condition.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TREAT A CONDITION?
Depending on the cause of you discomfort, most patients will notice some relief after the initial consultation. We cannot advise an exact time frame for treatment as each body will react differently and outside factors such as your general health and posture may affect the treatments effectiveness. Some patients may require 3-6 treatments before they notice any relief.
