What is LLLT?
Low-Level Laser Therapy is a treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin and interact with tissues on a cellular level. Unlike high-intensity lasers used in surgeries, LLLT uses low-power lasers that do not produce heat, making the treatment safe and painless.
During an LLLT session, light energy is absorbed by the cells, which triggers a series of biological responses. These responses can help to accelerate tissue healing, increase circulation, stimulate the lymphatic system, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain.
What conditions can LLLT help with?
LLLT is versatile and can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including:
- Chronic or acute pain: Whether you’re dealing with lower back pain, neck pain, or joint pain from arthritis, LLLT can offer significant relief without the side effects associated with pain medications.
- Neuropathic pain: disc injuries and nerve pain such as sciatica can literally stop you in your tracks! LLLT can help to relieve the symptoms and speed up healing, meaning you can get back to living your normal life sooner.
- Sports injuries: From sprains and strains to muscle tears and tendonitis, LLLT can speed up the healing process, allowing you to get back to your favourite activities.
Headaches and migraines: If your headaches or migraines have a musculoskeletal component, LLLT may help reduce the frequency and intensity of your episodes.

What to expect during an LLLT session
LLLT can be used as part of your osteopathy appointment where indicated, alongside other osteopathic techniques. LLLT is painless, and most patients report feeling nothing or sometimes a slight warmth in the treated area.
One of the significant advantages of LLLT is that it requires no downtime. You can return to your regular activities immediately after your session. Depending on your condition, a course of treatments may be recommended to achieve the best results.
